Bats'i Lab was born in 2018 from a collaboration between three photographers based in San Cristóbal and committed to high-quality photographic production: Isaac Guzmán, José Ángel Rodríguez and Pablo Farías. Initially based on a digital production workshop, as of 2019 Bats'i Lab revealed a workshop for gelatin silver printing and the use of historical printing methods, including platinum-palladium, cyanotype and kalotype.
Bats'i Lab promotes creative dialogue and collaboration, provides a wide network of contacts with the world of photography in Mexico and other countries. In this process, Bats'i Lab gives continuity to the great tradition of modern Mexican photography, promoting manual work for the production of images defined by their capacity for artistic expression. The Workshop is part of a program of activities that includes the development of a Photography Documentation Center in Chiapas, as well as exhibitions and publications.
Silver Printing
The use of silver emulsions was the basis for the development of photography throughout the 20th century. With its ability to produce great tonal richness based on a manual process, silver printing has become the gold standard for collectors and museums.
Platinum-Palladium Printing
Considered the pinnacle of photography's tonal capacity for expression, the use of platinum and palladium in emulsion nearly disappeared at the turn of the 20th century. Each photograph made with this technique has significant variations, each print is unique and distinguished by its permanence.
Printing with Pigmented Ink
The use of pigmented inks defines digital printing that has revolutionized contemporary photography. Through the use of high-quality inks and papers, high-quality images are achieved and a range of editing and production processes impossible to achieve in historical photography are made possible.
